Eastern Europe 6 week Backpacking Trip

Hi Everyone,
I have decided to go on a journey this summer with a friend. First I wanted to go to western europe and go look at everything those countries have to offer, but the budget we had would not work out. So we have decided to go to Eastern Europe. These are the places we have decided to stop at and for around how long we are going to stay at each place for. I do not know if its good time frames I have picked for each city, and if some cities are not even worth going too.

Cut about half these cities out. You have left very little time for train travel. Distances between these cities are long and far and trains are not always gna run when it is convenient for you. Border crossings takes time as well. And you may wish to actually relax in one or two of these places. Krakow you need 4-5 days for example.

Skip Cluj and go to Sigishoara (sp) its on the same route from Buda -> Brasov

Id skip IStanbul - not enough time. This city deserves a week atleast. And that border corssing takes ages, and you need to buy a visa as well.

Skip Varna as well, SO touristic and awful. Go to Valiko Tarnova instead - 5 hours from Bucharest (id skip Bucharest too- its a dump. Use it as a transport hub only).

And skip Greece - no time, your zigzagging will drive you mad on trains all the time. And that's a LONG haul from Sofia to Sarajevo. Your missing Belgrade and Novi Sad. I dont wanna ADD places but Belgrade is on that route from Sofia, might as well see it.

Hope this helps. I know this region pretty well, let me know if I can help.

Dear,

i also agree with coldwarspy because if you wants to go bus or train that is time consuming and un planned way i thinkg you are going with your family.

so,
Best option is book you car advance and cut down place is which is not comes in your path so you will get good option to see the place which you wants to see and you can spend you time.

Enjoying with hire a car and changes in your plan and take only those destination that you wants to wish.

BEst Luck! Have a nice Journey.

Call me on skype - cat_confuser - we can talk about Poland - I live in the south and have nothing to do over the summer, so I could put you up, show you around and help you save lots of money on expensive accommodation.

Dear Ami,

Too much on the list and really tied schedule for you, you may cut some place from the list and add the useful destinations like Belgrade and Copenhagen or Milan if u can.

Some of the destinations are bit crowdy and dump.. check before you leave for the trip and make a schedule according to your expenses on transport and some destinations as quite far from each other. , also check this website if you want to choose other locations for the tour : -snip-

Have a nice day!

Hi Everyone,
Sorry for the late reply.

I just wanted to say I ended my backpacking trip successfully and I did everything I wanted! I went to a total of 15 countries and had tons of fun. We cut out Istanbul, Thessaloniki and Sofia, and instead went to Belgrade right away. Then after Belgrade we went down to Bar, Montenegro and worked our way up to Budva, Dubrovnik, Split, (Korcula), Mdjet, Dubrovnik, Zadar --> pisa...

It worked perfectly, had tons of fun and would love to encourage other people to go to Eastern Europe as well!

Hi!
Sorry for the late response. Poland was very fun! I had a really good time there, although I only got to visit Krakow. Krakow is a beautiful little town on the southern tip of Poland, and its only 1 hour away from Auschwitz if you are interested in that.

The best part of Krakow was my hostel; it was the best hostel I have ever been too, and I highly recommend you to go there as well. You will meet amazing people and have tons of fun!

The hostels name was Mosquito Hostel, and it was very close to Downtown Krakow, breakfast included.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask!

How was Bucuresti? I wouldn't have 3 hours there, let alone 3 days.
