can anyone give me some advice on when to go. Where to stay ?
I have done the usual islands for the last 3 years but not trat side of the island.
Cliff,
Here is a good dedicated to Koh Chang. Take a look and e-mail the guy if you have questions.
Compared to the islands in the far south of Thailand I think you will be disappointed with Ko Chang. It's built up, over priced and it has a heavy rains in the rainy season. This is a great website for weather in Thailand all year round.http://www.travelfish.org/weather_fish.php
Have you had a look at Ko Lanta, Ko Hai or Ko Raya, they are great islands and a little more remote and away from the tourist trail.
Have fun!
Between May and November KC has a very heavy rain season - many local businesses take the time either to shut down, or carry out maintenance - in effect KC has a six month season.
outside of that time you'll find a lot of activities and services are suspended, there arre also some dangers swimming and snorkeling etc suffers from lack of services and visibility.
Do the hotels lower the prices? - not much and then you MUST check if there is building work going on at or near your hotel - they won't tell you.
