Hey,
From what I understand (I had a hard time finding this information out) you can't unless you have a B1 or B2 Visa. I am working in the US (summer camp on a J1 Visa) using my 30 day grace period to check the states out and then heading down to Mexico. I can't reenter the states to get to Canada so I have to fly because I don't have the B1or 2 Visa. Hope that helps?!
