Hi all.
With young kids, I'd say the beach, the national parks Yosemite, Redwoods, Sequoia, but not Death Valley, Legoland (near the beach in Carlsbad), and riding cable cars or visiting the Boudin Bread factory with its unusually baked items in SF would be lots of fun.
Also there are some unusual things you may enjoy--Solvang with its bakeries and windmills and ostrich farm, Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, where every room is odd, Jumping Frog contest in Angels Camp (gold mining country just a ways north of Yosemite), the Jelly bean factory in Fairfield (halfway between Sacramento and San Francisco), riding on the gondola to the top of Squaw Valley's mountains (near Lake Tahoe), seeing the so-called Mystery Spot near Santa Cruz (where everything seems to defy gravity), going to the top of the tram in Palm Springs, and visiting the San Diego Zoo (in San Diego) or Wild Animal park south of Escondido.
Enjoy
