Many people go to Hua Hin. Even the King of Thailand. About 4 hours from Bangkok. Bus, train and taxis can bring you there. Google check will give you more info.

Depends on what you want to do. My opinion is that this place gets more retirees and couples than other places like Pattaya and Koh Phangan.
