Is Gold Coast a good place to start or not ?

I think it's a great idea Tom.

The Gold Coast is pretty amazing and you'll be able to just settle in rather than the overwhelming shock that is Sydney and its prices!

The water, the beaches, and the weather are all better, the vibe is pretty chilled (with a little bit of show-off) and the Gold Coast hinterland nearby is incredible. If you're interested in doing specified work for a second year visa, the area just outside Gold Coast counts (postcode 4211).

Thanks kellie, yeah it just seems a lot more fun and stuff to do than Sydney , only downside is maybe I'm seeing the best place straight away ?

Nah there's no downside . It is a fantastic place but I reckon you'll find a lot of other places you'll like as much (or more?), like the Whitsundays, Ballina/Byron Bay, etc.

Yeah I was gonna say I was gonna move on to Byron bay to , do you know anything about how hard it is to get sponsored ?

Hard. Unless you have fabulous skills that locals don't and find a company that needs those skills and is willing to go through the process. Do you currently have any skilled work/training?

I have my hgv license would that be useful ? I've seen there's a lot of driving jobs

i reckon the gold coast is a fine place to start as well, loads to see and do around that area, just be carefull to not blow all your cash there haha (yes its that good), there is alot of driving work about in aus but its more farm machinery in the outback i've found, do you have any machinery maintenance, welding, farm experience? is good money to be had if you have the right resume and prepared to do a stint in the back of bourke lol...

Yes, that will certainly help get appropriate specialised jobs but will not likely contribute to obtaining sponsorship unless you also happen to be a diesel mechanic. The professions required for sponsored migration involve skilled workers such as medical practitioners, teachers, engineers, electricians, etc.

i missed the bit about getting sponsored sorry mate, i've worked with a coupe of people up here in cairns that have been sponsored, they were state sponsored i think so had to stay in qld and in their sponsors job for two years, i'm not much use on this as its been alot of years since i got residency, best thing is to check the aussie immi website mate... way they talked it wasn't hard to get in and get sponsored if you have the right skills, they were both carpenters, entered the country on whvs and then got sponsorship

good luck mate, if theres anythig i can do to help don't hesitate
