I find myself with the time and money to travel.
It'll be spring 2015 just after my 65th birthday.
Not ready to sit here and while away my twilight years.
Problem is so many choices.
Have been on many holidays, camping along the Rhine, beautiful but 3 weeks of loneliness, cruise on Queen Mary to Canaries, opulent but not enough time ashore and ballroom dancing not my bag, holidays with Solos holiday company, best for me and always had a good time and never alone, but expensive and more expensive if going further afield.
So, I'm confused.

Confused?

Read some books... do a little research... get off your ass and follow through! You're in a crazy, enviable position!

Have fun.

Cheers,
Terry

Have a wander around southern Europe. Warm to hot that time of year and not crowded.

Look forwards to December. Go to Asia, starting with Thailand. You can spend months there with sun just about every day through the British winter for not much money. The flight will be your biggest outlay. You can get an apartment starting from around £200 a month, plus electricity and water.

I'm almost 63 and have been backpacking on my own in asia and south america during my long summer holidays for the last few years since my kids became self sufficient. I've had a wonderful time packed full of amazing experiences and fantastic people of all backgrounds and ages. I retire at xmas and in January am off for a year long trip around asia. If I can do it so can you. All you need is a sense of adventure, zomd optimism and on open mind. Sieze the day my friend and see where life takes you.

Thanx Malcolm,
My biggest concern is one of feeling lonely, my 3 week camping trip along the Rhine and into Italy wasn't the best holiday I've ever had.
I've read a little about gap year for grownups etc but still unsure how many 50+ and 60+ I'll meet.
I've only used YHA in England and not been impressed, I don't like sharing sleeping arrangements with strangers.
I prefer my own room.
I do mix easily and find striking up conversation with strangers easy.
I've looked at these round the world airline tickets which seem amazing value.
I spent 3 weeks in San Francisco recently but stayed with my son but did quite a bit of looking around on my own, even looked up a place where they did helicopter flying lessons.
It was awesome, the instructor allowed me full control once we were airborne.
I don't know whether to try a 1 or 2 month test trip around europe?
Can you enlighten me about accommodation, some of your preferences and experiences?
Steve.
