Australia - important decisions! advice please!

Hey everyone!
So ive made the decision to travel/work in australia for a year! But now im stuck and not sure how to go about it all..
Im pretty sure about everything i need to prepare its just what to do when i actually get there!
Has anyone used organisations like gap 360 or sta travel? Or would anyone reccomended just doing it off my own back? Any tips/suggestions and advice about the whole thing would be much appreciated! Thanks

Hey! I lived in Australia for a year as well in 2009/10. I went there on my own and stayed with family for a bit, traveled alone a bit and then a couple friends came over and we traveled and worked together. I definitely recommend doing it on your own, without a tour company, if you are comfortable.

As for looking for work, be prepared and look well ahead of time, as it is very hard to find jobs in the busy season (november-february). Especially in the cities like Sydney and Melbourne. Sometimes you can find something right away, but be prepared for it to take a while to find something.

I have a lot more info if you want to contact me (I could talk about Aus for hours, haha).
Hope this helped!

Thanks! Its a bit scary knowing that im going out there all alone i kind of liked the idea of having the safety net of a tour company but then again it is supposed to be an adventure!
Any idea roughly of how much money i would need? I was thinking of going about november time travelling and working whatever jobs i can get!
That would be wicked i need all the info i can get! Even what things i would need to pack! Haha

Hey! I'm going out in January. I'm going to book into an ozintro week or something similar on arrival just because I'm going alone and for me, it's peace of mind knowing I'll get to spend my first week in a group of others in the same boat (I'm a worrier lol) . These kind of week tours all come with job support, they'll sort out your bank and tax number before you go but as far as I'm aware these are all very easy to do yourself. I know people who haven't bothered with an intro course and have easily met others at the hostels on their first day so it really comes down to what makes you more comfortable and whether you think it's worth the expense. There's books on Amazon about backpacking in Australia that give you info about what to do when you first get there and might be helpful if you decide to go it alone and give some tips on getting set up out there.

Hey! Thanks for your input! Im more tempted to book onto a group thing i dont like the idea of landing on my own with serious jet lag and not having a clue where to go next! Im looking at going in november i think

Hey

STA are good for flight prices but you can get your visa and most other things sorted yourself for a lot cheaper. The Oz Intro or ultimate oz trips look like a good way to meet people as soon as you arrive and gives you an insight into oz for your first week there. I am going to book an ultimate oz trip for the first week when I arrive. Gives chance to settle in and make new friends straight away. They also help in finding work and advice on where to travel next.

Thanks everyone ive decided to go with the ultimate oz 7day package! Il check that website out thanks again!

It anyone is interested in having a friend to travel with even if only for a couple of weeks I'll be leaving September time from england.

I would be but il be leaving around october/november.
