Hi everyone,
I need some suggestions. I have 17 days to fill in from Amsterdam to Barcelona. I am thinking maybe 2 nights in Bruge, 2 nights in Brussels/Antwerp, then Paris. After which we think we will head off to Madrid, ..... then flying out of Barcelona. I think we will fly from Paris to Madrid as it is a 10hour? train journey. We just love sightseeing and hubby loves food. I am not confident in booking rail travel, except for the Eurostar a while back. Thanks

I'm not particularly familiar with what to see in France, other than Paris which clearly offers plenty!

I don't think you need 2 nights in Brugge - one would be enough for me (and was when we stayed there).

There's absolutely an unending amount of options between Amsterdam and Barcelona, so I'll give you some suggested places that I've been to that you might want to consider including on this trip. You can then research them further to see if they're your thing or not. I added links on them to our guide articles so you can read up more.

I'd consider adding a few more locations in the Netherlands onto your trip. , , , , , , are all well worth your consideration. You don't really need more than a day in these locations to have a decent look around. There's plenty more, but the point has to be made that the Netherlands isn't just Amsterdam

In Belgium I think you've got the same ones I've been to, so I can't really comment on much else.

In Spain, I'd consider adding to your trip. A fantastic town an easy day trip from Madrid or stay overnight and experience it without so many tourists. You can travel down further south in Spain too, but that's probably taking you off route.

I know there are nice cities and towns between Paris and Madrid as well, so you could consider travelling more slowly down through that part of the country.

Of course your 17 days will only allow so much. Say 3 days in Amsterdam, 4 days in Paris, 3 days in Madrid and 3 in Barcelona - that's only 4 days left to see other parts

Thank you Peter. My 17 days exclude Amsterdam where we will be for 5nights to end a 2 week study tour commencing in Copenhagen and going into Malmö and various towns in Germany and Strasbourg in France before ending in Amsterdam. I thought I might go into Monaco after Paris, but I will have to work out the travelling times and route. Or just spend more time in Spain. Thanks again.

Try mapping it out in our . After you've added the stops you want, there is an option between each of them to "Search transport options" which will search flights, trains and buses to help you choose. It should be very helpful in your situation

Oh!Thanks for your help. My husband is breathing down my neck - he sounds like a broken down tape recorder, "have you booked, have you booked?

Hello

From Paris you can have a lot of one-daytrips such as Versailles (of course) Provins, senlis etc.
In Belgium you've got a lot more than what has been cited (Gent is for meone of the most beautiful cities - Lier, noem maar op) but I would not recommend, as I would not recommend the cities in NL mentioned unless your trip would be focused on NL or BNL.
If you wish, from Paris you can go to Nice or Lyon (by train, look on capitrainetrain.com) of flight - and from there lots of flights to Barcelona/Madrid.
Enjoy your trip.

Thanks. I have decided on my route. I am now trying to book the rail journeys. The Spanish timetable is not available until 60 days before travel.
