Travel Clubs, timeshares question

Hey everyone,

What kind of timeshare are you talking about? The kind that many people complain about, the ones with contracts that are hard to get out of or places that are difficult to unload?

My opinion is that there may be some timeshares that work out okay, the other 90% probably not! Some time shares may not be in areas where you have many things to walk to or have cheap transportation you can use. Also, my opinion, the people who gain most from timeshares are the persons pushing them!

I haven't found a need to be involved in timeshares and I have been to over 30 countries. When I travel I can take advantage of "spur of the moment" opportunities for cheap flights and just use economy hotels as needed. There are countries where you can get hotel rooms with A/C, private bathroom, TV starting from $15 to $30 a night.

I would have no interest in a timeshare.

Currently I am looking at using the service through , I'm hoping for some other people to weigh-in here so I can get an idea of how much money you save?

Do a Google search. There are quite a few complaints along with comments. (My suspicious mind would first think that any "glowing" compliments might be phony and really coming from a salesman who benefits from timeshare sales!)

I may be wrong but it looks like you are stuck in a contract for a long time.

Many timeshares are sold through high pressure sales talks. Sometimes with the offer of free stuff. They want to wear you down and pounce on you when you are most vulnerable. Many people are naive when it comes to travel, especially for overseas destinations.

If you want to travel you can do it on your own, when you want. And not have to fit into any schedule or long term contract. Even if you go to a hometown travel agency and have them book hotels and flights in the long run I think you will be better off. Also with a little experience you can book your own hotels, flights and tours. For many countries young backpacker types with tight budgets manage to have a good time even overseas. Many of these young people are dumber than rocks and still do okay on their own.

Just an opinion from an old fart.

I agree with karazyal. My experience with timeshares have been negative. I know others who all feel the same way. I have not heard of any timeshares that were worth it. Most timeshares are difficult to get out of, once you got into one. They usually provide high pressure tactics and offer you gifts such as a free trip, but then you are locked in. The only positive reviews that you may find are probably faked. If you are in one, you may want to try and get out if you can.

You can travel very inexpensively with a little research on the internet.
