What essentials should I take on a year whv

I will arrive in Melbourne 5weeks today. Me and my girlfriend are 28/29 years old from Glasgow Scotland we will start our one year whv we are really unsure as of wot to take if anyone could help us out to just make our trip a little bit better we plan on getting a camp van an doing lots of travel Melbourne to cairns sort of thing long sleep overs inbetween at different places an hope to pic up work along the way. Any help to our trip would be welcome Thank you. Bobby

I'm not sure what answer you're looking for here. I honestly don't think there's anything to bring beyond the obvious... anything that you forget can easily be purchased upon arrival...

Cheers,
Terry

"Picking up working along the way" tends to be easier said than done. Some work like that certainly exists, but for most jobs, people tend to like it if you actually stick around for a couple of months so they don't have to continuously train new people. Keep that in mind when your finances start running low.

As for what to pack: As little as you feel comfortable with. You really don't need more than you would for a week long trip; less than that, even, since for a week you tend to pack for various eventualities, while for a year, you should just pack what you know for certain that you'll use. Australia is a modern country with excellent facilities; anything else which you discover you should have brought, you can just buy there.

Two tips: A couple of white plastic bags (anything with logos and such printed on them are bad, since the ink on that will run after having been used all the time), and none of your favorite clothes, since they'll be threadbare and ready to throw out after having been constantly worn and washed for a year.

Oh, and shoes tend to be difficult for people. My recommendation: 1) Comfortable hiking shoes with good profile which are just barely neat enough to wear to an office job, and comfortable enough to walk around on in a city all day long, plus of course to go hiking on. 2) Flip flops or sandals. And that's it. Not worth the weight to bring more.

Thank you for your time and your reply. I think I'm looking into it a bit much as we haven't did this befor I will take on wot you have said. Thank you for you time. Bobby
