I'd like to travel along Eastern Sierras from Las Vegas to Lake Tahoe, should it be safe to travel in early April?
Barring any unusual late season snowstorms, there will be no problems. Most storms will be over by mid- March.
The main highway, US Hwy 395 only gets into the upper elevations north of the city of Bishop. Just check the weather forecast before leaving Las Vegas--and then ask at the restaurants when you get to Bishop if there are any problems up ahead on Hwy 395. And even if there are some problems, you can go around them by taking US Hwy 6 east from Bishop, then getting on US Hwy 95 and heading north, then cutting back west on Interstate Highway 80 west through Reno--and going onto Lake Tahoe once the snow stops coming down.
Enjoy
Enjoy the trip. The Eastern Sierra range is stunning that time of year.
I am glad I found this thread. I am very interested in doing a similar route. I am from Vegas, but I want to get a hotel in Tahoe and make the trip back.
Thank you for the information!
Worst case scenario is they have stop points to slow down traffic for bad weather. the drive is great! just stay safe!
