Flying Kiwi tours

Hi

I did the Flying Kiwi trip in New Zealand last Dec and would definitely recommend it. We bumped into a Kiwi Experience Bus a few times on the way round the South Island and it didnt seem to have anywhere near as good an atmosphere as the Flying Kiwi bus. Plus there was only about 4 people on the Kiwi Experience Bus and they ended up sitting with our group round our camp fire for most of the night. I really enojyed my trip - we did so many activities and being at one with nature by camping was definitely a bonus. When the weather was bad or we had to be up early to do dolphin swimming or whale watching we upgraded and stayed in a cabin for a few extra dollars - and in fact some of the cabins were better than the hostels we had stayed before getting on the bus. We got on the Flyin Kiwi Bus in Auckland and got off in Queenstown so we saw alot of both of the islands. Alot of the others on the bus were doing the 28 day trip which goes right around the north island and right around the south island taking in ALOT of sights and experiences on the way.

If you have anymore questions about Flying Kiwi let me know.

thanks!!! i don't know right now if i am able to afford the tour... the 28-day tour is $3,000NZ which is pretty steep for me (student).

however thanks for the response.... sounds like an amazing experience... one more question:

i will be in new zealand for 40 days; did anyone actually "hop on, hop off" and stay a few days extra in particular places?

thanks

ilana

I have not experienced any tour from them but I have heard from friends and relatives that they do a pretty good job.As it is New Zealand is a wonder place specially if you are adventurous and have animal planet as your fascination.

Hi,

I know it is a bit expensive and we felt a bit panicked by parting with that much money before we had even gone away but you do see ALOT and the atmosphere on the bus is great. By the time our trip was over we thought that it was really good value for money to be honest as we had seen most of NZ in 21 days (we did a shorter trip) and we had done so many things that you wouldnt dream of doing in a lifetime like sky diving bungy jumping horse riding through Lord of the Rings country etc etc(my list is endless) I also have sooo many happy memories from our trip too and this to us is what made it good value.

About 5 people who were on the bus at the start did the hop on hop off thing, one of them actually had plans to live and work in NZ for a while and since her ticket was valid for a year (I think) she really made use of the hop on hop off - I am still in touch with a few of them could try and pass on some contact details - I know they are both on Facebook?

Hope this helps and that you manage to decide I also went to Australia if you need any other tips?

Hi guys! So, my friend who was supposed to travel with me abandoned me. I am going to go to Australia and New Zealand by myself for one month each (total of 2 months).

Do you have any advice about which hop-on hop-off companies or tour companies to use? I do not want to do it all alone and want a very social atmosphere because I am a single 22-year old girl.

Quick info: I want to do Sydney, East Coast of Australia, Melbourne, and North and South Islands of New Zealand.

Thanks a lot!

Ilana

Hi Ilana

Not sure on the date you went on your travels but how did it go and did you go with Flying Kiwi in the end? We are due to get to NZ in NOvemebr and are going with them on thier full tour, but if you havent left yet they do also do some great smaller trips for a week or more. That may be worth trying so you get the very best out of the time you have.

hey everyone..i'm new here.
I was just nosing around this site looking for reviews of the flying kiwi tour,i am also 22 and have just graduated uni and am looking to go on the full NZ tour, starting end of January.
I am meant to be going with friends but they are struggling to save up,so am planning on going out alone to do the tour first.
Anyone with any tips the tour or just general travelling alone around NZ i would really appreciate it.
Seems like it has very good reviews,i too am a bit nervous about spending this much cash before i've even started, but it seems the easiest and most adventurous way of seeing the country, and i'd love to challenge myself by meeting new people/doing new things.
I am not that into cycling,it seems to feature quite a lot..do you think i'll miss out if i don't hire a bike? I'd gladly do a few bike rides but i get the impression you can either hire it for the whole trip or not at all?
Anyways,I'm really excited/nervous about going it alone!
ilanar i hope your travels are going well,do let us know if you go on the tour and how it goes
Nat x

I did the 28 day tour earlier this year, and I have to say that it was the best 4 weeks of my entire trip. The atmosphere was great, and everyone was so friendly. I know it seems like a lot of money upfront, but it's the only tour that includes pretty much everything. It's so much easier to just enjoy yourself when you don't have to worry about money for food, and accomodation, and the food was amazing! We had a period of about 5 days during the trip that it was torrential rain, and we couldn't camp, and our driver and tour guide arranged everything for us to stay in a hostel, and got it really cheap too. Would def do it again, and highly recommend it!
