Allergic to bug sprays

Never mind expensive or cheap get one with DEET - 15 to 30% - anymore is a waste of time.
Few natural" repellents have any verifiable benefits.

In the end the answer though is simple - COVER UP - wear long sleeves and legs at dawn and late afternoon/dusk

Use a fan, use a mesh, what pests are we talking here? Fending off potential mates? Leeches?

What sort of bugs are you talking about? You can use any insect repellent lotion or try using citronella essential oil. Citronella is a natural insect repellent and it's safe to use even if you have pets at home. Also try looking for a citronella-based bug spray.

Surprisingly, these repellents irritate my skin.

If you are looking into a repellent, you might try "OFF! Family". It's a 15% deet formula lotion, works well, and is very mild to the skin. It runs less than 50 baht at just about any cosmetics counter.

I second the 'Off' lotion suggestion. I am allergic to quite a lot of creams and sprays but the 'Off' lotions don't irritate my skin...they smell nice too (not like some of the other DEET lotions you can buy!)

OFF is availab le throughout Thailand and is availab le in different strengths and sprays or lotions

This is what I'm talking about, it is Citronella - next I'll try the Deet, Thanks Curt

I really wouldn't risk DEET! Citronella is ok but widely available - the organic citronella in incognito spray (which i use all the time on holiday all round the world) is apparently quite rare and therefore mosquitoes have built up less resistance to it. I wouldnt use DEET if you paid me, have you seen what that stuff does? It can melt plastic for goodness sake!!! -snip-.

Best stuff ever is CACTUS JUICE! There is a company that makes it. Just search for it online. It is all natural and some of the best repellent I have ever used ( including Deet or Citronella)
