Woman traveling alone in Portugal

Hi, I'm a 22 year old female, looking to travel in Portugal this spring. Any general info regarding best places to visit for solo travelers is appreciated. I will be flying into Lisbon. Also, when is the best time to go? I will be living in Europe through July and would love to be able to hit the beach for a couple days. Thanks, I appreciate all your help!

Portugal is as safe as anywhere for single travellers. Do lock your apartment including windows when out and don't leave anything valuable in it. Best time to go is from mid April till end of October. June to September is busy with July and August very busy and very hot. A car is useful in Lisbon and generally for getting around in Portugal. Most people who go to Lisbon visit nearby Sintra.

Hello! I went to Portugal alone 2 years ago (I'm 23 now) and it was fabulous. Down in the Algarve are some really nice beaches, and I stayed with a family for a couple of nights that I met in town (would only recommend this if you feel comfortable, and have a good grasp of who to trust). Think Lagos area.

Most of Portugal I found to be very friendly and welcoming as a solo traveler. Lisbon is an amazing city and I stayed at the Lazy Crow Hostel which I liked very much. There are a few neighborhoods to avoid when alone, but the main part of the city is fine. There are tons of things to do in Lisbon! I was there a week and felt like I could still look around. People were easy to meet.

I also visited Porto, Sintra, and Coimbra. Coimbra is a college town and has a lot of young people, but my experience was not that great. It does however have lots of little shops to look around in and some very tasty pizza. Sintra is a nice place to go as a day trip from Lisbon. It has a large castle with Moorish origins. Porto I liked because I love Port wine, and there is plenty to be tasted if you are interested.

I heard the Douro Valley is very pretty, but I did not make it there.

Last things: use the bus and public transportation. Its helpful and goes most everywhere. And please, if you go to Porto, don't stay in the HI youth hostel. Its way too far from the city center.

Well, portuguese people say that portugal is Lisbon and the rest is countryside...
by the way, Lisbon is magic. The nicest area to stay is, according to me, chiado. I usually travel alone also and I prefer staying in hostels because I meet lots of people. But I prefer not to stay in so-called "party-hostels". There's a nice and quite one right in the chiado area called shiado hostel, have a look there!
Have a nice trip!

Portugal is safe country no worries about it

Definitely get down to the Lagos area (Faro is also nice if you like storks). Watch out for hash sellers that litter the streets in Lisbon. They are basically harmless and only need a no to get the idea.
It's an incredibly friendly country, and I doubt you'll have any trouble alone if you use common sense.

I agree, It"s fabulous
