Hi!
My name is Gaelle and just joined the forum. Currently living in London where i've been for a few years (originally from Paris). I'm leaving in November to go travelling and found the forum of a great help so far!
Planning on going to India, Nepal, Burma, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, maybe Malaysia, maybe Indonesia (not sure of these last 2 if anyone could recommend?), Australia.
I'd like to go for max 6 months i think (tho i could defo go longer) but i have quite a lot to see....if anyone could recommend the length in each country - my plan was
India - 6wks
Nepal -3wks (incl volunteering project 2 wks)
Burma - 2 wks
Vietnam -3 wks
Cambodia -2.5 wks
Laos -2.5 wks
Thailand - 3 wks
Australia - 4 wks
All I would say (and some will agree with me - others won't).... 6 weeks in India is far too long. Just an opinion.
I've never been to India so can't say but from what Ive heard I agree 6 weeks might be a bit long, maybe 4. Personally I would say don't book flights between countries because you might have 4 weeks planned somewhere but hate it, or you might LOVE somewhere where you only have a week. I think you rough plan looks pretty good though, you might want longer in Vietnam and Thailand but shorter in Cambodia. Obviously everyones experiences are different so its really up to you

hey redpaddy!
thanks for your reply - why do you reckon it's too long? i guess you've been there?
was planning to do the north (from leh to delhi), then varanasi and a few other pilgrimage towns around) rajasthan, train accrooss mumbai, goa, down to kerala, up to chennai.
wanted to stop to do some yoga and meditation etc that's why i thought 6 weeks could do...
got another question for anyone who knows india - sorry if sounds silly :-)
i've talked to a few ppl who have been there and none of them had been to andhra pradesh, orissa and eastern india. none of them were able to explain why but they thought these parts of india seemed to be less "interesting" - do you know why? has anyone been there and has some feedback?
thank you so much!

hey :-)
thank you for your advice on not booking flights between countries in advance. i've read stories of ppl who do either way, but in fact it sounds crazy to really know in advance how long you're going to spend in a country! recently i have heard a lot of ppl saying that thailand isn't that great coz too touristy, too obvious- is it some sort of fashion thing to say that or what?! think it looks wicked, by what i;ve read, and you seem to have liked it too

It's a false opinion/prejudice that the southern part of India is "less interesting". Andhra Pradesh is a fantastic place to visit. It is the largest state in south India and is one of the prominent states in the country. It has several cultures and traditions in it with enormous history and glory. While the capital city of Andhra Pradesh is Hyderabad, some of the major cities in the state are Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Vijayawada, Guntur, Kurnool, Anantapur, Rajahmundry etc.
When compared to other cities in South India, Hyderabad is the most economical place where you can find budget hotels, serviced apartments, restaurants, bars etc with reasonable prices. It is one of the most happening cities in the country with many lifestyles, cultures and traditions.
Infact, Hyderabad is a great city and absolutely a safe place to visit. It is one of the major and prominent cities in Andhra Pradesh and is the Information Technology Hub in entire South India. I work with a travel website in which you can find all the details about Andhra Pradesh like local accommodation, restaurants, pubs, clubs, bars, attractions, events, culture, tradition, people, living, travel & tourism info etc.
Hyderabad is home for some of the best delicacies in the country. Not all five star hotels and restaurants serve all kinds of local dishes. You can find them like pani puri, samosa chat, cutlet chat, dahi puri, mirchi bajji etc only with the street vendors and small stalls. They are fresh, delicious and mouth watering.
