Hi, has anyone been to Rijeka in Croatia? Is it worth a visit?
I have been to Rijeka and I must say it is quite a disappointment and, together with Šibenik, one of the least interesting towns in Croatia. It's excellent as a transit point, but not to stay there. The rest of the Kvarner Bight is very beautiful, though. I think, the best and cheapest solution would be to buy yourself a one-hundred kuna bill (costs about ten quid) and have a look at the picture of the church on the back, which is in Rijeka.
Hi, thanks for the info, guess I'll pass on that one. I was considering it as it's cheap to fly there from Bristol airport, I would have preferred to have gone to Split or Dubronvik, but it's quite expensive to fly there. Does anyone know the cheapest way to get to Split or Dubronvik from the UK by plane, probably going around early September.
You could get the cheap flight to Rijeka then get a bus down to Split and then Dubrovnik. Buses are fiarly cheap and there is an extesnice network of them in Croatia.

I am always sad when somebody says that some place is not interesting. Every place in Earth is interesting and worth visiting and the town Rijeka is a far away from "not interesting" or "boring". When we are preparing to visit some destination we always look for some information about the city, what to visit, what to do, where to eat and where to go out. I know that it is little difficult to find some information about Rijeka, but that is because Rijeka was not a tourist place, it was a town with developed industry and one of the most important world ports while surrounding cities like Opatija, Crikvenica and island Krk has played a role of tourist places. But Rijeka is a town with rich history and has some great palaces, castles, churches and old boats worth seeing. So if you want to spend a couple of days in Rijeka, you will have enough things to do. Learn about Rijeka history, find out why are so many battles fought for Rijeka and enjoy in Rijeka's restaurants while they are still cheap. I was in Croatia back in 2011 and if things haven't changed since, there were several daily buses between Rijeka and Split. I was planning to take the bus in the opposite direction, from Split to Rijeka, and it would have taken 6h or 7h. But finally i didn't took that route (because people told me there was no much to see and do in Rijeka, but concerning this i cannot tell if it's true or not!).
I can say Dubrovnik and Split are both very charming towns, but because they are quite similar if you visit one of them you might skip the other and try an island instead, they are beautiful
Oh, and concerning getting to Dubrovnik or Split from the UK, check Easyjet's website, they fly from:
London to Dubrovnik and Split
Bristol to Split
Not sure if this is valid for September though and if the tickets are affordable, but take a look!
