I'm planning my trip to Myanmar, however, it's required that i provide an itinerary of my trip and proof of a hotel booking for a few nights i think. The hotel is easy - book whatever over the web and pay peanuts, however the itinerary thing is confusing.

Well, I just returned from Myanmar on Oct 12 after three weeks of "Magical Moments in the Golden Land". My route was Yangoon-Tuangoo-Meikhtila-Kalaw-Inle-Tuangyi-Mandalay-Pyin Oo Lwin-Hsipaw-Namhsan-Hsipaw-Mandalay-Bagan-Pyay-Yangoon.
So Let me give you some clarification/pointers:
1. No need to show proof of a) where you will be staying b) itinerary. On the arrival card, they ask you to mention where you will be staying ...just mention any GH in Yangoon...that's all! No officers will ask you the itinerary,etc. (Well, if you want my itinerary which I planned for myself as I dont depend on guide books, feel free to give a shout!that is if the embassy in London demands one).
2. There is no need to get FEC...it's been done away. They don't even ask you how much you will be spending,etc. If you are bringing in more than USD2,000, you have to declare.
3. No problem is getting Myanmar visa in BKK.It will take three days (850B, I think). Bring three pix; no need for itinerary.
4. JUST NOTE THAT IF YOU PLAN TO TAKE THE TOURIST FERRY FROM MANDALAY TO BAGAN, IT'S NO MORE USD16 - IT USD30! (Effective from Oct 1);Add another USD2, you can take a flight from Mandalay to Bagan!. The slow boat, every Sunday & Wed, is USD18. I took the mini bus,instead, from Mandalay via Meikhtila to Bagan (8,000 kyat). Beware, the road after Meikhtila to Bagan is painfully bumpy!

Dana is correct; no need to fill out all of that information. Even if you just write the word "Hotel" that should be enough. You're a tourist and you're touring. Say no more! If they insist on an intinerary, just write down the "big four" group: Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay, and Inle Lake.
I've always gotten my Myanmar visa through their embassy in Bangkok. I paid 1,200 baht to a travel agency to get it for me, which eliminated the need to go to the embassy in person, wait in lines, etc. So...it may be cheaper if you do it yourself, but I'm not certain about that.
As for booking the hotels, no need to do that via the web. If the hotel has an e-mail address you contact them directly and that can guarantee you a room and peace of mind. But almost all Myanmar hotels are far from full, even in high season, so it pays to shop around. Some hotels can discount rooms if you ask in person.
Thanks again Danalasta and Buzzard - you two have given me a lot of really helpful info over a couple of posts now.
I feel much more relaxed about the the whole visa thing and am just going to wait to BKK to get it, as it's a complete rip off in London, compared to the prices you're talking about for thailand.
This way i can be a lot more flexible about my plans too - just the way i like to travel.

You can apply for visa at any Myanmar Embassy - in London or in Bangkok. It may not be necessary for proof of hotel bookings for visa requirements.

Dana is right. No problem is getting Myanmar visa in BKK, but you should note:
_The visa section is now open for applications only from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. Afternoons are only for pickup.
_Same-day visas cost 1260 baht. Next-day visas cost about 1000 baht. Three day visas cost about 810 baht - cheapest option. It was not always easy to get the same-day-visa and that you need good reason to support the urgency. Normally Staff at the Myanmar Visa section are open to your argument. Moreover a proof of means to get out of the country e.g round trip ticket is needed.
_Visa pickup time is from 3:30 P M to 4:30 PM
Why don't you try to get visa arrival? it's more convenience. My family got it at visa2myanmar.com. It was great!
