7 days in Peru (easter hols)

Super G has indicated that this thread is about Peru

United Mic have had good reviews in most of the places I have read about them. I used SAS I think they were called. Very reputable and very good they were anyway. I did the Inca Trail late March finishing April 1st and it was necessary to book well in advance.

Altitude sickness is very peculiar. I wasn't affected whilst my wife was. We are both fairly fit so it really is just random. Only someone who was badly affected could really explain how bad it is. I can't imagine rushing into it would be easy however. We spent months in SA at various altitudes getting used to all sorts.

Ultimately if you just want to see MP itself just get the train to Aguas Calientes and go for the day, stay overnight then return to Cusco the next day.

If you happen to arrive then really fancy it (if you are ok) you can always as around for a cancellation.

Dear Super G,
It is recommended spending at least 2 nights in Cuzco before hiking the Inca trail. During those days avoid alcohol in excess and drink plenty of water and coca tea. Also, avoid eating at cheap and doggy restaurants to prevent getting food poisoned before the hike. Avoid fresh salads and mayonnaise.

A last minute update, due to the heavy rains that hit Cuzco couple of weeks ago, Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail will remain closed until April 1st (the Inca Trail may be opened couple of days earlier). So book in advanced your tour otherwise you risk missing your chance. There will be many people whose trips have been postponed so they will try to do it as soon as possible.

Have a safe trip,
Ivan
