Am thinking about taking the Gold leaf "First passage to the west" Vancouver to Calgary tour and Im under the impression that it's a one way trip.
If you have the money then do it-the scenery is stunning.
It is an older crowd though if that matters.
Check the site for last minute specials one way Calgary to Vancouver.
Is this the train ride that goes through Emerald Lake and up the spiral tunnel? If so this is a great trip.
Is this a special train or is it just a package that puts you on the Transcontinental where you get off in Calgary? you might want to make sure this trip takes place in the daytime and how many observation cars are in this train as this pic shows if it only has one you might have a hard time getting up there.
My father's all-time favorite trip was taking the train from coast to coast through Canada. He also said that travelling through the Canadian Rockies was the best part of the whole trip--so I think you'll really enjoy this trip.
P.S. I hope to take this trip myself sometime soon.
I have no idea what it is about trains. They are loud, uncomfortable as the car bumps back and forth on the rail, and somewhat cramped. But I love em.
I've not been on a plush train trip.
I've only been on the Ghan from Adelaide to Alice Springs and that was like being in a guinea pig cage
- no joy at all
So, Im very much looking forward to the Rocky Mountaineer
I like this place. Going through the Rocky Mountains is especially great for people who love to look at the outdoors without traipsing. But the train through the Rocky Mountains is also a truly luxurious train. The chefs are top-notch, as is the food and you couldn’t ask for finer service.
I'm telling you the spiral tunnel is amazing. Or so I've been told.
