Diving in South America

Anybody know some really nice places to dive in South America?

I dived (dove? I always wonder about that) in four places in South America. Islas Rosario, Colombia....interesting coral, but hardly any fauna at all. Overfished maybe, or the coral is dying. I dived in Taganga, Colombia. Great diving, fun dive community, great little town. That was a good spot.

I dove in Punta Del Este, Uruguay. Good diving. Not much diving community. Nice town. Uruguay is great.

I dove in Los Molles, Chile, which bills itself as the best diving in mainland Chile. The water is goddamned cold (7mil suit with 14 across the body), and, again, there was, where I went, no sealife to speak of. Los Molles is a dull town, but the park next to it is gorgeous and, by itself, worth a few days of exploring.

That's all I got for you.

Cheers mate,
I'm traveling to Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru and Chile.
Are these places known for any good diving?

Thé diving places in Brazil are the only 2 marine reserves of this huge country: fernando de noronha (which is an island off the northern mainland= expensive) and Bombinas which is in the south: just norht if Florianopolis, Santa Catarina.

I loved the diving of Isla Paridiso in Columbia (offshore from Cartagena and on the outer reef from Isla Rosariao). Of course the Galapagos in Ecuador was fantastic too... In terms of where you're visiting I would recommend diving in Brazil. Brazil and it's large coast offers many dozens of excellent sites for diving including Fernando de Noronha and Arraial do Cabo.

Try the north of Brazil at Fernando de Noronha - a group of islands in the Brazilian northeast coast, near Natal, north of Recife. Fernando de Noronha is a sanctuary of marine life and an all year round place for diving. Buzios, a luxury beach resort destination just two hours drive north Rio de Janeiro, offers excellent places for diving. But the true regional pearl for diving in this region is Arraial do Cabo, less than 90 miles south of Rio de Janeiro. Near Sao Paulo you could check out Ilha Grande (Angra dos Reis region).

Could you reccomend reputable Dive Centers at these destinations? I have just qualified at Open Water lever in Egypt, Sharm El sheik and plan to travel and dive, however being newley qualified i am keen to dive at reputable centers and be around knowledgeable instructors etc to build confidence.
