Alex, I have been to both, and both are interesting cities to visit, but also quite different. This really comes down to personal preference - nobody can tell you that one is "better" than the other. These things are very subjective.
I've been to Madrid and not Copenhagen, so I can't offer my point of view of how the two cities are different from one another. But as my housemate noted, if you're keeping an eye on the budget for the trip, Madrid would be cheaper than Copenhagen.
You know, there are 3 and 3 of you for the two cities. Would you consider splitting into two smaller groups for the first city, then meet up for the remainder of the two cities?
