Schengen VISA - study in more than one country

My daughter is currently studying in Spain on a Schengen study VISA issued by the Spanish Consulate in Miami, USA for 180 days through July 14, 2010 with multiple entries.

Ask at the Italian embassy in Washington and the university in question.

Making an educated guess I would say that your daughter can study with the Spanish visa in Italy, provided that the Italian authorities and the Italian university do not require her to have an Italian student visa for this.

Provided the Italian university doesn't want to see an Italian student visa I would just go ahead and do it if I was your daughter. She just should keep quiet about the visa situation. Don't ask, don't tell. Nobody is going to bat an eyelash at an American with a Spanish student visa who spents a few weeks in Italy at the end of her semester abroad.
