Hey,
I did the exact route that you are thinking. From the backwaters we went to Cochin (highlight of Kerela for me) and then took a bus to Mysore. I really liked Mysore. Has a very different atmosphere than most Indian towns we visited and i would recommend it. If I remember correctly we took a train from Mysore to Hospet (nearest to Hampi) via Bangalore but didn't have to stay in Bangalore. From Hospet we then moved on by train to Goa and eventually Mumbai.
Mike,
Don't miss Mysore..The Palaces have to be seen..It was the capital of Raja of Mysore!! Also don't forget to visit Brindavan gardens located about 10-15kms from the city.Lot of things to be done in and around Mysore.
From Mysore seems there is no direct train to Hampi(Hospet). From Bangalore there is a train No:6592 by name "Bangalore- Hampi express" that departs everyday from Bangalore at22:30hrs and arrives at Hospet around 07:00 next morning. From Hospet you can take a bus or hire a transport to reach Hampi located about 10kms away.
From Hospet, you can go to Goa and then on to Mumbai. It's easy.
All the best.
Thanks for the input. I guess that is what will will do...it sounds great.
Thanks again!!
Mike
