I am not sure what the pack looks like, but you really cant lock any backpack. Sure you can put a lock through the zipper pull, but if someone wants to get into your bag, they will. The most important thing is to keep your valuables (money, credit cars, passport) looked up in a safe or kept on you. You should not be bringing too much expensive stuff anyway. Most of the time, especially in hostels, you will be with people just like your self and will not steal from you. (There is always a bad apple here and there). I spent 6 nights on the roof of a hostel in Jerusalem without a problem. Just be smart.
I haven't got that rucksack but am using a cable lock which I wrap around the buckles in a way that it can't be opened. It would not be hard to just break the buckles or something, but hopefully it will act as a deterrent to oppurtunistic thieves.

I'll have a smaller backpack to keep my valuables with me, just that I was reading some other forums and there are actually people stealing toiletries and clothes which would be in the bigger deuter backpack.

Thanks for the picture, but I am still not sure where did you loop this?
I always put my backpacks in a flightbag, these have zippers where you can put a lock through! With a flightbag your backpack is not only protected from theft, but also from dirt etc.
Yeah the roof. It was great except the morning after a long night of drinking! The first night there was no room so we slept on the roof. We had some much fun on the roof that even though a room did open we just stayed on top.
A flight bag is not a bad way to go. I have packs get beat up while travelling so having another bag to keep all the straps is not a bad way to go.
