Hi,
I am a UK citizen holding a British Passport but residing in Spain. My wife is an Indian national holding an Indian passport and residing in Spain with a "Family member of an EU citizen Spanish Residency Permit". I believe I am correct in saying that providing my wife is travelling with me she is entitled to visa free travel within the EU member states(except UK which is another story!!). We have several friends within the EU and she wishes to visit them from time to time, but if I am correct she will need to apply for a Schengen Visa each time she travels. What is the longest visa she can obtain, or is there a special long term visa available to her to avoid having to apply for visas frequently? The 90 day rule should not be an issue as they will only be short visits and probably spread out.
Many thanks.
Your wife doesn't need a Schengen tourist visa.
As a holder of a long-term residency permit in one of the Schengen states she is automatically allowed to travel around the Schengen Area visa-free.
An Indian who lives in England and has a UK residency permit doesn't need a tourist visa to the UK to go visit Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. It is the same with Schengen visa. If you have a permanent residency permit for Spain you can travel to all other Schengen countries visa-free as long as you are a tourist and stick to the "90 days in a 180 day period"-rule.
