Hi,
Hey Dan,
I'm looking to fly in around the same time but I'm thinking of flying into Sydney.
I'd be interested to do that later on in my travels as my buddy as done that before and he said it was fun.

well that sounds cool mate as im there for a year I could do it pretty much anytime really. I wanted to get one months work out the ways as soon as I get there for the experience and to make some new friends.

Hey ther,
Im flyn into cairns at the end of july which is a bit earlier than you but i hope to do a bit of travelling for the first month then start fruit picking by the end of july. A few of my friends worked in a town called tully which is near cairns picking bananas and love it. soo if u willing to travel up the east coast this could be an idea for u also...and i hear the weathers lovely all year round up ther.
Sinead.
that sounds like a good plan Sinead! i can get an internal flight fairly cheap so maybe me and you could do some banana picking!

me and my girlfriend are going to Melbourne at the end of October. looking 4ward to meeting all new ppl and having a laugh 4 a year. were hoping to get fruit picking work when we arrive and want to travel as much as we can. does anyone know how hard/easy getting work is around that time?
Hey Dan
Been to Oz and done the fruit picking and now I'm going back again on my second year visa! Fruit picking is hard work but is where I had the best laugh and made some really great friends- clichéd I know. I fruit picked near Mildura (Vic) first, the money wasn't great there in my experience, but if you look up any Mick and Bev's hostels in Melbourne they could put you in contact with some people to organise work. I also picked further up the East coast in a town called Homehill, near Ayr, the money was much better for me there. There's a hostel there called The Malpass that will take you in and find you work in the season. In October I got fruit picking work near Adelaide. Otherwise if you get in contact with the National Harvest info service they can give you numbers and areas where fruit is in season etc when you are in Oz. Getting work through a working hostel is easiest. Bus services etc are usually cheap and regular even to remoter areas and farmers are well used to dealing with foreigners coming and going and tend to make picking up work easy.
Hope this helps.
Have a good trip!
Caroline
