Do you advise posting your travel photos in full resolution online? Many people say they could end up downloaded and used somewhere else beyond your control.
They could be, yes. Both teenagers who want to decorate the background of their myspace page, small organizations making flyers of various types, and big businesses who want to spend less money on advertising have been known to just use any old image they find on the internet. Not a whole lot you can do about it since it's hard to discover, but when you do discover it, and it really bothers you, you can always send a cease and desist (usually just mentioning the DMCA is enough to get them to take it down), or in the case of big business, send them an invoice for past usage.
Here on travellerspoint we only expose user's photos up to 800px wide (the link to the original size is only available to you personally (although other people could guess this url)), which limits the usefulness of them for other parties, so there's less chance of this happening, but yeah, the chance of it happening is still there. It's a trade-off with being able to easily share your photos online with friends and others, and up to a certain point, worth it.
(You could also edit all your photos before uploading them, embedding a small copyright watermark or something, which will slightly help with deterring unwanted usage.)
Great! At least my hunch was confirmed and I am not just being paranoid to edit all my photos before I upload them in any online site. It is just bothersome where they can end up. especially family photos.
Is it possible to track? Well, I know the online world is as vast as the universe, but I just wonder if anyone has figured out how to do it.
But, I agree, small personal security measures can help protect your photos and make it, at least, difficult for people to use (or abuse) them.

It's not really possible to track, but there are some websites where you can find images similar to other images, and if yours has been copied all over the internet, that will usually help. It's unlikely to find all the matches though if it's been used a lot, but with family photos that's also not likely to occur.
thanks! i guess many of us have been taking this for granted until something hits us.
