Hi, newbie here - im planning on a 6-9 month expedition to cover Thailand/Aus and end up in the States.
Honestly the USA is not terribly tourist-friendly unless you have your own car. Greyhound buses are used by poor students and those who can't afford a car. The middle class here usually fly or drive, and expenses can be quite high. There are usually just a few hostels in most good size cities - I suggest you try the room rental listings on the new .
Greyhound charges $556 for a . You could not rent a car for that price. Greyhound will get you to most US cities, but not to our National Parks. You will need to buy a tour or rent a car to visit them.
Good luck with your planning.
