Hey people,

Anyone??

hi guys, i havent travelled much but im planning a trip to phuket in thailand for next week for my daughter and the accom is 15 austalian dollars a night in a really nice quest house with pool etc so maybe that will give u an idea of the prices of accom feel free to contact me if u need to know the address

The budget you have is not only quite realistic, but generous in some ways. You'll spend the majority of your money in Australia and NZ, almost everywhere else on your list you'll be able to do things very cheaply - and your budget reads as roughly $1000 a week.

That means you'll be able to do most things fairly nicely - depending on your style and how you want to travel and where. When i did a similar trip with my wife, on a considerably lesser weekly budget, we stayed almost exclusively in nice clean private guesthouses, ate well, traveled a lot by plane, and had a good budget for experiences. In fact, with this kind of budget and only 12 weeks on the road you might as well skip the backpacker buses in most places and fly between locations, since time rather than money will probably be your biggest limitation (prices are cheap anyway, on most of airlines which serve the areas you want to go - especially if you use airlines like Air Asia - you can often find a $30 airfare as opposed to a $8 bus/train fare.).

That should simplify a lot of your travel issues - as you can use a main hub (I recommend Bangkok) and fly to most of the places you want to go.

your biggest expenses travel wise should be the flights to Australia and New Zealand and the travel around those countries with Australia being by far the more expensive of them.

That's not to say you won't want to be frugal at times and spend a lot more on experiences - things like scuba diving in Australia and skydiving in NZ could easily cost 2-3 days worth of budget (per person), so you'll need to figure out where you want to prioritize.

I'll be happy to talk with you in more detail if you have specific questions - and I'll be happy to let you peek a bit at my old blog if you want some idea of how we did it.

DocNY,

Thank you for the reply we really apreciate someone taking the time to give us advice. We planning on spending only a week in Aus and 3 weeks in NZ, 2 of which will be spent driving around the country in a camper van so we are trying to minimise our expenses.

A look at your blog would be great thank you, as we have never done anything like this before we are trying to establish the best route to take. Also if you could recommend to go to any specific places that you visited on your travells thats would be great too.

I fully intend on doing the skydive in NZ and the Auckland tower jump ( cash permitting )
