One free month in Nepal/India... HELP!

Hi people!
So, Im going to do 2 months volunteering as a nurse in Nepal begining in September: one month in Kathmandu the 2nd in Chitwan. Then I have one month (give or take) and I really cant decide where to go!
With my weekends off work I should be able to see a lot of Nepals sights and Im sure that I want to do a trek, probably Annapurna base camp trek (10 ish days), after my volunteering, so that gives me 3 (ish) weeks left. But what to do???!!! I have seen Jaipur and Agra before so I was thinking South india? Maybe Kerala/Goa/Mumbai? Is this feasible in 3 weeks? Or maybe Sri Lanka? I want to book my flights soon to get the best deals.
I would really appreciate your advice and opinions so I can make an informed decision.
Thanks,
Katherine

Since you have only 3 weeks time, the best thing will be to fly from Kathmandu to Delhi and then take a flight to either Mumbai and work your way down the western coast of India or take a flight to Thiruvananthapuram and work your way up from there...

You can choose to spend some time in Mumbai (which has elephanta caves) and visit Goa which is an overnight journey from Mumbai. Goa is famous for the beaches and typical Goan cuisine.
Then moving on to South india, which is famous for the beautiful temples, places not to be missed are Madurai, Mysore, Chennai, Tanjore, Hampi. What i recommend the most is to visit the State of KERALA, which is called the God's own country. This state has a number of backwater cruises to suit every budget. In Kerala, the traingle of Munnar(hill station), Thekkady(wild life reserve) and Alleppy(Centre of backwater activites) are not to be missed.
Regarding internal transportation, where long distances are to be covered, it would be preferable to take the ariel route. Some of the domestic airlines are:
www.jetairways.com
www.indian-airlines.nic.in
www.flykingfisher.com
www.spicejet.com
www.goair.in
www.goindigo.in
U can prefer train/bus for shorter distances. Train tickets can also be booked upto 90 days in advance at www.irctc.co.in.

Flights to Colombo are available at dirt cheap rates from many of the southern cities of India like Chennai, Coimbatore and Trivanduram.... Check these out and if possible you can easily spend 2-3 days in Colombo...

Hope this helps...Do let me know if u need any more info

Cheers
Arif

My vote would be to head to Sri Lanka, its a good time in the year to be there, and after all your work, you deserve it! I think you'll make better use of your short amount of time there, than chasing around southern India.
