Travelling to Perth alone

Hi I am travelling to Perth in October for a year not sure where else to go, first time on my own travelling

I travelled from Syndey to Cairns in four weeks in 2009 and didn't spend a single night without meeting new people. Every time I had to leave a place, I felt kinda sad because I had to leave awesome people behind and was scared I wouldn't meet anyone in the next town but that never happened. Plus, you tend to meet people more than once during your trip because most people take the same routes.

Don't be shy, everyone is travelling and interested in meeting people so just talk to the people in your dorm or at your breakfast table or whatever. Buy the Lonely Planet and check out their hostel recommendations, that way you should be able to avoid unpleasant surprises and always be in places with lots of other backpackers.

If you have a year, try to travel all around the country but make sure you take some longer stops on the way, otherwise you might get tired of it. Also, if you have a working holiday visa, it'd be a good idea to try to find some work to pay for some of your travelling. It's also a much better way to get at least a bit of an insight into the way the Australians live.

Have fun, it'll be amazing I'm sure!

hi victoria im goin to perth on my own in sept, no set plans yet just hopin to find some work and travel and meet lotsa people! can't wait, bit nervous too goin alone but will be grand once get there am sure

Hi Victoria!

I'll be in Perth for a week as part of my 9-month long adventure around November-time. I've got a couple of friends who have emigrated out there but would love to meet some more fellow travellers! Have you got a working holiday visa? I've got one but I think I'm going to try Melbourne for work..

If Perth doesn't take your fancy, you could always get a cheap flight on Jetstar or something to the East coast!

hey Vic

i came to perth on my own bout a month ago and tot i woodnt meet any one out here, but theres lots of people on there own and very one is really friendly, if ur looking for a hostel to stay in check out britina on william, its really clean and only a 2 min walk into the city centre and its in the middle of all the nite life, so if ye got any questions feel free to ask away

Hi victoria, if you're worried about meeting people (which I'm sure won't be a problem) why not try sydney for new year? Seems the place everyone wants to go reading here anyway! Just make sure you get you hostel booked asap, they fill up quickly

Hi thanks everyone for the messages, still nervous as approaching really quickly lol. Wil anyone be there still in Perth when I get there be great to meet up

Hi Victoria,

I'll be in perth from early september. I'm in the fortunate position of having somewhere to stay if I need it - but i'll still be doing a bunch of random hosteling around the area! I've already accumulated absolutely loads of info on perth, where to hang out, where to stay, what to do etc - and i've made a few friends there in advance! I'm so excited. So, if you'd like any advice or help...

Heya Victoria,

What date do you go? Have you got everything booked yet?
I was looking to go to thailand at the end of aug/ start of sept for a bit and then end up in oz around oct!

Dont really have any specific plans when i get there either, just know i want to be in sydney for xmas and new year :-)
Sophie
