A Few Days in Costa Rica

Hi,

Anything you want to know about Costa Rica, try the fodors forum. Anyone there goes to South America, it's Costa Rica and maybe another destination:

Huh?

Leoneves, is there anything in particular you're interested in (nature/surfing/chilling on a beach etc)? Assuming you are starting off in San Jose you can pretty much head anywhere if you have 4 days. I took the bus around most of the country in 2002 (blog entries ), and that was on a 2.5 week trip, with multiple stopovers back in SJ.

Without knowing anything else about you or what you like, I can say I had probably the best time in Montezuma and in Rio Sierpe. They're both pretty different experiences though

I haven't been to Costa Rica but rather than heading over to Fodors for recommendations, try checking out TP's wiki section for sights and activities, etc. It's all written by people have visited or even live there. It has a wealth of information:

Just thought I'd add this since you didn't, Sam.

The beaches along the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica are amazing! They aren't spoiled by a lot of development, or crowds. I visited Playa Flamingo- it's a beautiful pink shell beach.

You really should visit one of the national parks, especially Tortuguero, if you can. The rain forest in Costa Rica is gorgeous, and you can see monkeys, toucans (like the one on the 'Fruit Loops' box) and caimans (mini-alligators).

Arenal volcano, near the capital, is an active volcano. You can't get too close to it, but at night you can see the fiery lava spilling down the sides.

I am here right now and traveling around a lot and volunteering. If I had 4 days here I would go Santa Teresa for surfing and Montezuma(nearby) for partying, really cosy town! I would visit Volcano Arenal and the hotsprings around it and maybe go zipline and rafting in the cloudforest around Monteverde. The national park of Manuel Antonio is also really beautiful and a lot of animals(make sure you are at the entrance at 7am, or else all the people before you will have scared most of the animals away from the main roads).

That is just the pacific side though, haven't been to the Carribean but many people say Tortuguero is nice and Puerto Viejo is a nice party town with good vibes though it is far from San José, close to the Panama border. I would go for Montezuma, Santa Teresa and Monteverde if I had 4 days.

Hope that helped a bit
