Anyone going to Myanmar or been to Myanmar?
I am trying to plan my trip at end Oct and I know I want to cover Bagan, Mandalay, Inle and Yangoon.
Any other places I should not miss?
Any tips of any places or things to do or things to watch out?
I have full 17 days. Thanks.
A trip to the ancient cities surrounding Mandalay is a worthwhile day trip. Mandalay itself isn't that great but take a walk up to the top of Mandalay hill for great views. Allow a couple of days at least for Bagan, and hire a horse and cart to get around. In Yangon Shwedagon Paya is the main attraction - try and see it both at night and during the day.
Take plenty of $US cash with you as this is used for most larger purchases. Get some of the local currency, Kyat, when you get there- money changers are everywhere on the streets of Yangon. Don't change your money at the airport as the rates are terrible. When I was in Myanmar in 2006 there were no working ATMs anywhere in the country, and credit cards were suspended. I'm not sure if this is still the case.
