Maybe I should explain the trip I'm taking. It's only partially planned and the rest is in the air, so I guess I really need some suggestions on the best way to do this.
I live in Philadelphia, USA. In December me and three guys are participating in a rally (road trip basically) from Devon, UK to Bamako, Mali. I'm planning on flying into Dublin, and then going to Devon from there (via Exeter I believe). Not sure if I'll make a stop in London as time will be a bit restricted at the start of my trip (and open at the end). Everything up to Bamako will take place roughly December 8 to January 8. After that my companions fly back to the US and I hope to continue my travels solo.
So I can't decide where to go from there. I figure I'll see more of Mali before I leave. I would really like to go to India next, but of course there's no simple way to get there from Mali. It seems to make sense to insert another destination between Mali and India but I want it to be practical, thrifty, and avoid the cold weather in Europe. I'm kind of curious to see Dubai. I started looking into Round the World and Circle Trip tickets. It's a lot to figure out so I was hoping to get any thoughts, insights, suggestions that anyone on the forum here might have.

I am not sure what countries Mali is connected to in terms of flights, you may want to check this website and do a bit of research on each airline that serves a destination that might suit you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bamako-S%C3%A9nou_International_Airport#Airlines_and_destinations
India is well connected to the Middle East, North and West African countries as well as to South Africa.
Many backpackers use Air Arabia between the Middle East/West Africa and India. As it does not penalize for one way tickets unlike many big airlines.
In case, you can't cheap direct flight to Kolkatta, you can still consider taking a domestic low cost carrier in India (look up for India): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_low-cost_airlines
I hope with a bit of research you can find something cheaper.
