Visa for Tanzania

Hi,

Hi Patrick,

I am pretty sure you can not get the visa on arrival - it must be brought in advance for Bulgarian nationals.

The closest Tanzanian embassy to you is in Germany (Berlin) or Italy (Rome). You can contact them for application information.

Have fun!
Tania

Tania,

I am heading to Africa in October and my first port of call is Tanzania. I have been looking at the visa requirements and some sources say that an onwards or return ticket must be presented upon arrival.

Basically I am planning to spend 4 months in Africa and I don't really have a set plan of where I will be. Would you know if this entry requirement is a must, or if it is sufficient that I can demonstrate I have enough funds to support myself. I am thinking of flying on to Thailand from Jo'berg in say February, but would prefer to see how I am enjoying Africa before pre-booking my flight.

If I do have to show an onward journey ticket, would a flight out of another country in Africa (South Africa - Jo'ber), departing about 4 months after arrival be sufficient?

I just want to get some sort of idea about how strict they are on entry into the country for people without set travel plans. I am an Australian citizen.

Cheers
Alex.

Alex,

I don't want to be personally responsible for the accuracy of this information, especially since this will depend on mood of the immigration officer; but from my experience, a flight out of South Africa or showing sufficient funds for your stay should be sufficient. Have a great trip.

Patrick,
I don't know personally about Bulgarians, but I do know that many nationalities can receive a visa upon arrival. If I fond any specific information about Bulgarians, I will write an update. Have a great time.

Thanks for the great help!!!!!!!

Hi Patrick,

i found these visa requirements on the Tanzania tourist board site:

Foreigners seeking to enter the United Republic of Tanzania should be in the possession of valid passports or any other travel document. The passport or any other travel document is to be presented to the Immigration Control Officer at any entry point, such as Border station, Airport or Harbour. The travel document must be presented along with one of the following:

A valid visa or
A residence permit or
A pass

N.B: A visitor must also present an onward or return ticket together with proof that he/she has sufficient funds to support himself or her self while in Tanzania.

Hey Patrick,
For Tanzania you only need to apply in advance for a visa if its a volunteer/business/residence etc visa. Otherwise, you get a tourist visa on entry, either 50 or 100 usd depending on where you are from, and this lasts for 90 days. Don't attempt to volunteer on this visa, if caught you'll be charged 500 usd. You need to have your Yellow Fever Vaccination card with you.

Have fun, and dont walk on the beach between Nungwi and Kendwa at any time of the day, there are regular muggings on that stretch, otherwise Zanzibars fine (though a rasta dude did flash me in Stone Town!! Twice actually....).
