Prescriptions in Aus!

I'm on antibiotics (topical and oral) for my problem skin, and have been for the last two months. I don't plan to be on antibiotics for the rest of my life, but I really want a handle on my breakouts while I'm travelling so it doesn't completely wreck my confidence while I'm out there. I get two month repeat prescriptions here (UK), but I'm wondering if I'll be able to get Minocycline antibiotics while I'm in Australia?

I used to use Zineryt in the UK and the equivalent I have been prescribed here in New Zealand is called Stiemycin, so you may find it's called that in Australia too. My doctor hadn't heard of Zineryt and had to google it to find the equivalent! Stiemycin appears to be the same or very similar.

I would have thought you'll have no problem getting the same oral anti-biotics in Oz too.

Ah, thank you for all of your help. Good to know I can get the equivilent to Zineryt on that side of the world - the stuff is awesome for my skin.

Did you need to bring along your prescriptions from the UK to show your doc in NZ, or did they have no problem prescribing it for you?

I never brought my prescriptions from the UK with me and my doctor didn't have a problem prescribing it. Any doctor you saw in Oz would have to make a decision on whether to prescribe something on the basis of their assessment anyway, regardless of what another doctor had said. I'm sure you'll be fine!

It's worth going on the Medicare website (the PBS section). There you can search any drug to see if its offered under their Benefits Scheme. I discovered my medication will cost me £23, as opposed to the £7.40 prescription charge in the UK. So i'm going to ask my doctor for as much as I can get! They usually prescribe 6 months worth max, and tbh I couldn't fit anymore in my luggage!
