European Holiday with kids

We are heading to these holiday destinations in Sept/Oct and are looking for some information on must do's and travel tips. We are travelling with two kids 9, 7 years old. The average time in most of the destinations is 4 days, approximately 10 days in Italy. Best ways to travel around, tours or not, accommodation etc. Never traveled to any of these destinations before and would to learn some of the tips and tricks and best options etc.

I travel with my children regularly and they are only little still - nearly 3 and 5... my biggest lifesaver is to have an iPod Touch (or two) with me at all times, so that when they want to tune out they can. I also think that admitting up front that you are not going to fit everything in, and may not see 'it all' means that you (the grown ups) are not disappointed.

Also look for activities that stimulate them. Many galleries and museums offer a 'scavenger' hunt type activity for kids, and it might be something like 'Find 20 cats in painting in XYZ Hall' - look out for things like this because they will enjoy the search... maybe even put a competitive streak into it too, like a prize.

In each country, encourage them to taste something new and find a new favourite food or drink.

Hope that is a starter for you, most of all - enjoy it!!

Thanks for the info, the iPods are packed and ready to go. Love the ideas of scavenger hunts, will incorporate in to as many things as we can.

It will be difficult to see all the things that we would like but will try and prioritise as many as we can. Who said holidays are meant to be relaxing and restful, ha,ah

Cheers

Aboo10 advised very good facts however I would like to make some addition here as the kids are really not that mature so I would suggest that do put some slips with your contact number and your residence address in their pockets and make them aware of the facts of being careful.
