HI all,
I have a Canon Rebel that I love because I can take some extremely nice pictures with me. That being said, it's a large camera to bring around so I also bring my small Olympus point and shoot for portability when I'm going out at night and such. I think it's nice to have options with it.
It depends entirely on your level of expertise and how serious you are about photography. The options vary wildly.
Cheers,
Terry
I absolutely love my Nikon Coolpix AW100 for travel. It's durable and waterproof and has built in GPS. The picture quality is pretty amazing for a compact digital camera.
Love my Fuji x10 I got earlier this year. Probably not to everyone's taste, but the photos are great quality, it's a solid build and not too large. Very nice travel camera.
But Terry's right - there are a huge number of options so it rather depends on what kinds of things you are looking for in a camera. If you have a bit of understanding of how cameras work or if you just want a point and shoot that will always turn out ok.
One thing I can recommend though and I'm pretty sure this will be true for most cameras you get; get a nice fast (the fastest you can find) SD card. Makes a huge difference in how fast you can take subsequent shots, which is often an annoyance for me.
I'm assuming since you are asking the question you don't have much experience with cameras. I'm afraid you will probably get as many opinions on which camera as replies on this thread and it will leave you just as confused. So there is no substitute for doing your own research. You need to decide what you want from the camera, what you are prepared to pay, and how much convenience is important to you.
I love taking pictures but hate the hassle of pulling out expensive, cumbersome equipment. I use one of the Cannon Ixus range of point and shoot cameras. I can keep it in my pocket, take pretty good pictures and video with it and it has all the features I require for general point and shoot. It does fall short on those artsy pictures that require manual light settings, long exposures or good quality zoom but that's the trade off for convenience.
I love my Canon G11 - it's a great camera and compact enough to carry around comfortably. But as other posters have said, you need to decide what you want from a camera and how much you are prepared to pay, then do some research.
Honestly, it's great that everyone has thrown in their dos centavos, but the only reply that makes any sense (he says immodestly) is #3.
Until the Original Poster comes back with a glimmer into their photographic expertise/experience/requirements/etc. then all replies are meaningless.
Cheers,
Terry

You are beginning to sound so much like cyberia. If you put the same energy into just giving a answer as you did into criticizing peoples questions, both the poster and others might have an idea of a few camera options to look at.
Bear in mind the question isn't actually even asking for a recommendation of a camera.
The question is "Which is your preferred camara to take pictures during a travel", which is not the same as "Which camera do you think I should get"
In that light, I think everyone can pretty much name the camera they use and explain why they like it. Seems totally legit to me And actually can be quite an interesting general discussion.
further down he does mention he's looking for "suggestions", but still I think answering with what we have and why we like it is not a bad answer at all.
