You'll be fine in Thailand - epicentre of the backpacker circuit. If you're staying in hostels you'll happen across loads of similar, like-minded people and it'll be easy to fall in with people to travel with for a bit.

While it will be ridiculous to say Thailand has no crime, it is probably THE country a solo female traveler can feel most at ease. It is always advisable to use common sense and be cautious, but generally is a very safe country to travel in. If you are going to go to events like the full moon party on Koh Phangan, this is where you need to be cautious, don't take drinks from strangers etc, etc.
Because there are such large volumes of young solo travelers like your self, backpackers and generally just many western travelers, you will find it hard not to meet people. If you are friendly and out-going (I guess even if you are not) you are going to make many new friends.
getting about in Thailand is a highlight of visiting here. It is cheap, easy and fun. In the places you are likely to go (all the islands, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Krabi etc) transportation looks for you, you won't have to look for it aand you can pick and choose what form of transport to use, whether it be a taxi, tuk tuk or whatever.
Do the trip, you won't be disappointed and if you end up departing for Thailand on your own, just follow all the rules you would when traveling in any western country and you will be as safe as you would have been in the west.
Tip: Stay off scooters, this is in fact dangerous.

I am visiting Thailand, Phuket in particular in the last week of Feb, what are your dates and plans? where exactly you are planning to visit?
This will be my 2nd trip to Thailand, and last bachlor trip... so i wanted to do maximum party and rock hard phuket during my short last trip.
I visited last year, and usually stayed out and roaming on the roads, never find anything alarming or disturbing, infect felt safe & secured. Great night life, fun party people, humble and hospitable.
by the way, if you leme know your dates then may be we can catch up together?
