I will be in Singapore from June 24 till July 9. I am not really looking for someone to share the cost, i just dont want to be alone. I may also venture into Indonesia, Malaysia and Philippines during this time. I am from Virginia.
Oh yes, i am Vegan, so some suggestion for food places would be awesome.
If June 24 to July 9 is your entire time over there you don't have a lot of time to go too far; you would have to fly to Indonesia and the Philippines. If all you intend to do get is stamps in your passport go for it. Malaysia you can reach by train, bus or even taxi from Singapore. Malaysia will be cheaper than Singapore. You could even get to Thailand by train and bus but flying would save you lots of time. Bangkok is cheaper than Singapore and KL.
You will meet other tourists in hotels, on tours, on buses and trains, etc. TravBuddy website may help you out for companions too.
Flying to Singapore round trip from Virginia would be cheaper than paying for one way flights to there and one way home from another nearby city. Flying between nearby Asian countries back to Singapore is not that expensive. Singapore is the more expensive country in this area.
In Malaysia KL is worth a day or two, Penang further down the train tracks is popular with backpackers and even cheaper than KL. From there to Thailand is about 2.5 hours.
Google up "things to see and do" for each city you intend to visit to get some additional help. From Singapore Malacca is popular. Many buildings are pink. Go on a boat ride and see the Dragon Boats. Visit the old Raffles Hotel in Singapore.
No problem getting vegetarian meals in Singapore.
