Hi there, I never been there but I have some friends who had been around. The best time to go in Danube delta its in end of the spring or begin of the summer(May-June). Probably one of the best places to go in Romania as being one of the wildest place with a very large number of species. In July-August when is the dry season you can get temperature around 35 degrees Celsius, so its gonna be hard to suport the temperatures. My advices regarding the dates you are going, its to go to explore the mountains in the middle of the country. Plenty of wild places with wild animals as well and the temperatures are more convenient. I know all that stuffs because I am from Romania and I hope that helps you in a way...bon voyage

Indeed, for the first 8 days we'll be travelling in the Apuseni mountains, hopefully do some hiking
