So this is going to be my first experience of travelling. Heading to Sydney on January 4th, only 6 and a bit months away now! If anyone's in/going to Sydney around that point it'd be good to hear your plans!

I've booked a week at wake up hostel in Sydney to get myself up and running. In regards to travel plans, I'd like to head up the east coast towards Cairns, I've also heard Western Australia is really nice, and less competitive for jobs. None of these plans are set in stone though, I'm just looking to take each day as it comes really. What are your plans?

Sounds like a good plan! I'm not too worried about being alone as I make friends easily and like you said, 90% of people are in the same boat. I just wanna get out there! Six months seems like a long time at the moment. I'll definitely need that time to save though, from what I've heard, travelling Australia doesn't come cheap!

It looks as though pretty much everyone on this forum is travelling alone, so you're not the only one in that situation. My advice would be to just not worry too much about it and enjoy the experience, you'll meet loads of fellow travellers out there anyway. How long are you planning to spend in Perth?

I've already booked a weeks accommodation at wake up, I've heard pretty good things about it! My main question would have to be regarding jobs- what kind of work is available in Sydney? I'm guessing work would be quite hard to come by, as there would be lots of competition from other backpackers etc..

thanks for the reply. I'm really not to sure on how to go about the whole travelling experience and how long to stay in one place for, i suppose when im out there i will start making decisions and maybe make friends and see where they head of to. Perth isn't a destination ive decided on yet as ive heard alot of people talking about brisbane, im just not sure at all the only thing i am sure about is being in australia for October
