I'm looking to head down to the great white antartica later this year early next (new years would be cool).
Was wondering if anyone had been down there, routes they took.
I#ve looked about, and most jump off points are Argentina, Chilie or Aussie - the purpose of the trip is basically to step foot on, push a penguin over and a snow angel then offski back to warmer climates (the only continent I have left to goto).
Any ideas or advice would be helpful
My mother in law did that trip from Argentina.
Unfortunately, she returned.
Haha, I wish we could 'like' comments/answers. James' would surely get a thumbs up, even though it was predictable
The last time I was looking at a similar trip, the rates were crazy, but there seem to be more folks offering it these days. Pretty sure G Adventures does for example? Actually, yes, they are.
LOL, agree! And 'like' James...
Jason, I don't know your budget, but I just checked with one of the Dutch website and they offer good deals: . It's not in English, but you could always call of course.
Also, huge differences regarding prices and type of vessel, from 3095 euro for 10 days is one of the best standard deals though.
But it seems that prices around Newyears or also January in general are way higher. Sometimes 50% more expensive. Just to let you know, in case you haven't figured this you yet yourself
Have fun!
No real budget as it'll be a one off, more looking to make the most of the experience.
Great value and time counts most, mid life crisis trip cheaper than the alternatives aka marriage, kids etc.......
Predictable? Hmmph!
Predictable? Hmmph!
ha ha ha not that your bitter eh James
I just watched an excellent documentary about French Canadian scientists on a 430 day adventure to Antarctica (fantastic photography). The name of the DVD is The Last Continent by Jean Lemire - from 2007
Seems one of their problems was lack of cold and snow - the world is melting!
