Hey guys,
I'm super dooper exited to be doing my working holiday in Aus this year, i'm flying out from Heathrow in August..
As its just me going, i was wandering if you guys had any tips or tricks for me, staying alone in hostels, traveling around and finding work!
Pots and pans?!
Cheers,
Terry

Hi Holly iv just spent 9 hours trying to get a note together just as i was editing

According to Christopher Fry ,"I travel light; as light, that is, as a man can travel who will still carry his body around because of its sentimental value.” Pack as light as possible. There is little you really need when you travel.
Definitely agree with the above - travelling light is better. Definitely no need for your own plates & such unless you're actually going camping; if a hostel has a kitchen, it'll have what you need. Would recommend a swiss army knife or similar...that's worth its weight in gold!!
As for finding work, I haven't done the work visa programme yet (next year!!), but this piece of advice from others who have has really stuck with me: try to not go through an agency to get jobs. Yeah, it makes the job search easier, but they take a percent of ALL your paid gigs. Bah!
Happy travels
I second the travel light idea. You won't need dishes or pots or pans if you're staying in backpackers. Take less than you think you'll need. Nothing sucks more than carrying a forty pound pack up 337 steps because you overpacked AND missed the last bus in Cinque Terre.
I traveled Asia, Europe and NZ over a six month period a few years back, alone. It was AWESOME. My biggest tip would be to expect that things won't go as planned. Go with the flow. You'll meet a lot of great people in backpackers!
I also highly recommend WWOOF: http://www.wwoof.com.au/ Did it in NZ and it was an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Have a great time!
