Hey,
Hey Daniella
I'm also planning on working and travelling Oz, my flight lands in Sydney on Jan 6th. I can't wait! Only six months or so now! How long do you plan on staying round Sydney for?
Dan x
Hey
I was actually meant to be going on that date, but things have changed so I've decided to move it forward a bit, no point in waiting if I don't have to ! Ermm if I'm honest I haven't maybe thought that far.. it depends on budget, which I'm told doesn't go very far in Oz! From when I land around the 10th I'm estimating I'll have about £1,500 to spend, so I would like a job someplace I liked rather then taking anything cause I'm desperate. My friend is in Oz at the minute living near Bondi Beach and loves it so I'm thinking something like that would be ideal, and if that's the case I'll be there for a year!
Are you planning to travel all over Oz first then decide where you like the best? Are you going on your own?
x
Ah well if I'm honest I don't have any concrete plans! I would love to travel all over Oz but it depends on budget really, need to find somewhere I can get work, I would be more than happy doing fruit picking as I've always loved the outdoors! Yeah I'm going out there on my own, it'll be my first time on a plane as well haha, nothing like throwing yourself in at the deep end! X
Haha! Bless you, that is pretty out there, never been on a plane and your going to be on one for like 24 hours! You'll be fine though, I just take a big hoodie and my iPod and snuggle up and hope you didn't sit next to someone smelly!
I'd like to get a normal job first even if its just bar work, my friend that lives there did that and used to get like £200 tips a night sometimes! Ill prob do fruit picking after, cause don't you have to do that for 3 months so you can another year visa? I'd like to leave it so I could always go back!
What's your plans for Xmas and new year? I'm thinking about booking my hostel in Sydney for nye same time I book my flights cause apparently they book up quickly!
Have you spoke to many people going at a similar time? X
Yeah I must admit I'm not looking forward to that flight, it's gonna be a killer. I get bored on a two hour train journey, so a 24 hour flight could be an interesting experience... I would like to do bar work or something like that, I think you have to do training courses and stuff for it when you get there though, the tips would be great though, especially if you're getting £200 a night! I'm spending christmas and NY in the UK with friends and family. It'll be my last chance to see most of them before I go. I'm quite jealous of you spending it in Sydney though! I've spoken to a couple of people, only found this forum last night though so it's early days. Any ideas what hostel you want for NYE? I'm staying in wake up when I get to Sydney x
Hey!
Sorry I'm just replying I hadn't subscribed to the post so it didn't email me!
Yeh bar work would be ideal, normally a laugh working behind the bar, that or maybe fruit picking or something so you're out in the sun!
That was my original plan to go literally a couple of days after nye, I really need to get booking or I'm going to end up having to push it back until then! I haven't even looked into hostels yet, what sites did you look on? I go ibiza on Monday and haven't even got anything sorted for that so I think I'm going to do the serious planning and tell work when I get back from Ibiza! What dates are you in Sydney again?
Have you just been writing on the forums on here then, or like messaging people? I ideally would like to find somebody traveling from the uk with then at least you'll have company on the flight and I reckon that's going to be the scariest bit leaving the UK and first arriving in a random country with just a bag full of stuff.. eeekk that freaks me out thinking that! haha
Are you having to leave a job and stuff at home to go?
x
Hi
I've just come back from the states and next on the Agenda is SE Asia and Oz. Was thinking of going early next year but really wanna go earlier to spend a couple of months in Asia then spend Xmas and NYE on Bondi Beach.
How much were your flights? I've had a look and can get to Thailand from Newcastle for about 500 quid, then Bangkok to Perth is like 150 quid so not bad at all.
One of my mates came back from Oz recently and had a crap job in a hotel out there and ended coming back with more money than he arrived with. Said its really easy to get work as well.
Most of my mates have already done Asia and Australia so looks like i'll be going alone!
Hey!
I used hostelworld to look for hostels, I'm staying at wake up, can't remember if I told you? From what I've heard it's pretty lively, so shouldn't have any problems meeting people there! It's all booked and confirmed so one less thing to worry about.
Ibiza? Lucky for some! Hope you have an amazing time!
I'm landing in Sydney on Jan 6th. I'm not really sure how long I'm staying there for though, just gonna go with the flow, with a bit of luck I should be able to land a job pretty quickly. I've spoken to a few people on here, still can't believe how many people are doing the same thing!
I'm working at iceland at the moment, so hopefully should be able to return to my job when I get back to the UK, need to speak to the boss nearer the time but it shouldn't be an issue. Other than that I have no ties so it seems like the right time to do something like this. So what are your plans for after Sydney? You heading up the east coast like everyone else?

Hi Kev,
Have you booked your flights now? I was thinking of probably flying from london as the cheapest flights seem to be going from there! I think it was something like £370 to bangkok. What date are you looking at in october?
Most of my uni mates have already been traveling or are still living in Australia but they're visas will run out before I get out! So I'm going it alone too. My friend worked in a bar near bondi beach and as a nanny, she's saved like £3000 easily. So my aim is to save a bit to be honest as I'm gong to be put flights and visas on a credit card! I never get on an actual computer so it might be easier to chat if you've got fb?
@dan... I've not really thought that far ahead! I guess it depends on how much further my money will go and who I've met. if I love Sydney I might try and get work there.. or if not keep going up.. tbh I will do it at some point cause I want to see as much of oz as possible while im there and definitely want to go to the great barrier reef! so whether I work a bit then move up or if I move up then work will have to see.. What about you, are you wanting to work in Sydney? x
