Hello all, I will be travelling on my own for the very first time in July, to Italy. Although I have chosen the country which I would love to experience, I haven't decided what city I'd like to visit. I will be staying for only one week, but I have no clue what city to go to.
I love history. History is so interesting for me, but I know that Italy is full of history, so this is hard to narrow down a city based on this criteria! I want to stay in a city that is rich with history, art, good food but most of all, is not crowded like Rome. I don't really like crowds because I am a very reserved type of character. Also a place with a good night life ( I mean being able to see plays at a night open theatre for example ) would be great for me.
Thank you all who reply in advance, hopefully I will benefit from your suggestions and will inform you of my chosen choice!
This probably isn't much help but the only place I have been to in Italy is Rome! We went for the champions league final but stayed for a week to see the whole city, Fantastic place so much to see, if I was you id still consider it,
Richard.
I suggest you go to Florence it is so nice and interesting! Also while you're there you can take the rain for one hour and go to Sienna for a day !
Naples. Has to be, Rome in August is sweaty, crowded and hellish. Naples too, but to a much lesser extent, and you've got Sorrento, Amalfi, Capri, Ischia etc just nearby. I'd spend a day in Rome and then get the train down to Naples (sit on the lefthand side for the magnificent scenery).
Cortona is wonderful. Great food. Lucca is a beautiful walled medieval city. Food there not so great. Forget their pizza - awful. Lots of biking, rich history.
If you love history, Italy is good course, have a lot of history, but in terms of history Portugal is a wonderful country, from north to south is the story everywhere, many museums etc. ..
Hi,
I lived in Italy for a year. I don't have a favorite City but if you have a week you could easily do Florence and Rome as its only about 1.5hours on high speed train (aprox 23 euro).
They are both amazing cities with incredible history and sights. You might even at a push get Pisa in :-)
If you do fancy that the trains are the way to go between cities, I usually used a website called .italotreno its pretty easy to get around. FYI Florence is called 'Firenze' in italy...
You will have an amazing time where ever you go Italy is a wonderful country!
Hi,
I am italian so what can I say.... Italy is so full of history!
I think you could visit Florence and Rome as they are quite close... and they are both amazing towns.
About Rome, some places could be crowded... for example the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel....the Basilica, the Colosseum... but there are also many places less known by tourists but equally full of history and art. If u need any help just ask me.... I'm quite expert about Rome.
