Romantic White Christmas in America

Hello! My fiance and I will be going to America for our honeymoon and looking to have a classic white christmas like you see in the movies; the beautiful big American houses, making snowmen and perhaps some iceskating. We will be staying in New York from the 16th until the 22nd/23rd and looking at going to a beautiful town a renting a house/room, preferably with our own fireplace and spa, and in a town that celebrates Christmas so we can still go out for a nice Christmas meal and have lots of Christmas cheer around! Probably prefer to stay in a place with owners or reception so we can get local advice when we get there on things to do, restaurants etc.

Airbnb is the obvious choice - just hope the weather cooperates (snow is not guaranteed anywhere these days!)

Well, probably the best known hotel/cabin for this is the well-known Trapp Family Lodge, which is owned by the family highlighted in the movie "The Sound of Music". They moved to the US after leaving Austria during WWII, and now own a place in Vermont, near the city of Stowe--which is a major tourist attraction.

Other places to look for similar type of accommodations would be farther west in the towns of Vail, or Aspen in Colorado, near Park City, Utah or Sandy, Utah (Alta, Snowbird, and Brighton resorts all are near here), near Jackson, Wyoming (ranked by Forbes as the best ski resort town in the US), or near Lake Tahoe on the California-Nevada border--which has the advantage of also hosting Las Vegas type shows at their casinos on the southern shore (look for hotels in Stateline, Nevada).

If you want to completely get away from it all, there is also the well-known Greenbriar resort in West Virgina (west of Washington, DC by a few hours), or the Mammoth Mountain resort in California, which is about halfway between Lake Tahoe and Los Angeles. Both of these places require at least 3 hours of driving just to get to once you arrive at the main airport, however, so I'd stick with the listings above.

P.S. If you go to the resorts near Sandy, UT, also book a meal at a restaurant called "Le Caille", it's my favorite one in the US, where there are roaming llamas, peacocks, and french hens surrounding the 1600s-looking French chateau (actually built around 1985).

I'm from Massachusetts and snow is definitely not guaranteed around Christmas in MA. That said, if you go to the White Mountains in New Hampshire, you will probably have snow around that time. North Conway is also the most adorable town, so if there's no snow, you can still go to Zeb's (adorable store) and enjoy New England life. Omni Mount Washington Resort is the most beautiful hotel up there, but pricing is steep.

That said, if you want to be closer to Niagara, I would stay in northern Vermont as that's more manageable driving wise. You should still plan on spending the whole day driving to Niagara if you stay in NH or VT...you'll just have to add on 2-3 hours if you're in NH.

And, yes, airbnb is so great. I've never had a bad experience using them.

Hope you guys have a fabulous time! Christmas in New England is so wonderful.
