Can anyone help my with my itenerary for my trip to rotorua next month?
Hi RLightning,
What kind of help are you after?
What spots are gonna be good to visit for my 7 days stay. I heard there was this museum thingy that has video presentation about rotorua and stuff. I don't know what places in exact order to visit so I can fully enjoy my stay
What sort of things are you interested in? How far from Rotorua do you want to visit? Will you have a car at your disposal? How big is your budget?
Hi RLightning
You have Whaka wich is short for Whakarewarewa (pretty hard to say) fairly central to Rotorua. It's a traditional Maori village around some geysirs and hot springs which are their hot water supply. It's a really interesting cultural tour and the people you meet are residents - not tour guides - all the money from tourism goes into the community which is cool.
If you have transport - though there may well be guided tours - the Waimangu valley is also awesome. It's 20 miles or so from Rotorua and was the scene of a huge volcanic eruption a bit over 120 years ago. There are boiling lakes, hot springs and geysirs right along this deep wooded valley. There's a couple - we were only a few days in Rotorua and I'm sure there's plenty more to see in the town itself too.
I have car and money at my disposal I just want the best places for atleast a 3-5 day tour :D
Hi,
To add to the above, there is quite a lot to see in Rotorua for about three days. Bear in mind that it is a tourist town and that things are expensive. I was there over Christmas and was shocked how expensive the admission tickets to the main sites were. A lot of the activities are based on the geothermal nature of the city (and from where the whiffy smell comes from). The Rotorua tourism website has lots of info (rotoruanz.com) on things to do, especially under the heading of miscellaneous madness.

I am well aware . I saved up for my pocket money for a year or so . ) I want to go home smelling like rotten eggs as they say hahaha
I'm not sure what you're interested in but:- Wai-o-tapu is brilliant for a walk amongst the thermal mineral pools but you'll need to be there before 10:30am to see the Lady Knox geyser spout, the Skyline is a cable-car (called a gondola here) ride up the hillside and then there's a luge (wheeled bobsled) course at the top - great fun to race with mates, Kerosene Creek is one of the few places you can have a thermal swim for free (it's where the local teens used to go skinny-dipping). The thermal pools at Hell's Gate are OK and you can see a Maori performance at Whakerewarewa, again amongst thermal pools. Further afield there's the Huka Falls jetboat near Taupo and the glow-worm caves at Waitomo and if the Lord of the Rings is your thing, you can visit Hobbiton at Matamata.
Now that's a lot. Thanks :D I'll make sure to enjoy every single mili-second of it :D (*^_^*)
