Hey guys,

I live in Sydney, it's a great spot - pretty expensive though. Not sure how good a guide on costs I can give you, but here goes:

Rent in a shared house will cost you a minimum of $200 a month - ABSOLUTE MINIMUM, expect to pay closer to $400. This will not include gas, water, electricity etc.

A case (24) of local beers wil set you back $35-$45

Food is great, fresh and fairly cheap from supermarkets etc. A meal at Maccas will set you back about $8, cheap asian about $15 and other restaurants going up from there.

A ten ride bus ticket will cost you between $10 and $40 - depending on how far your trips will be.

If you're working in a low skilled job, you should expect to be earning between $15 and $20 an hour - so you'll have to work a lot to cover the rent/beer money.

With these costs you can expect

ALEXMAC offered some good advice.

Stick to the basics. Food from supermarkets is always the way to go, and you can get away with spending anywhere between $40 - $60 / week depending on your appetite!

A night out at various clubs can cost quite a bit if you attack it without much thought. It's not uncommon to pay cover charge to get into some clubs, costing somewhere between $10 - $20.

For your beer try and shop at the bigger alcohol stores, such as BWS and First Choice, they usually have specials on a handful of beers at any one time.
